Jesska Trueman, owner of Wilde Visual, makes short films and takes candid photos to celebrate, promote and remember the best times and adventures in life:

Tell us a little about yourself Well, I’m based on the Gold Coast in my busy household of 2 kids and my husband. I’ve been a stay at home mum for the past 3 years, which has given me a lot of special time to spend with my kids but also time to realise how much I wanted to create a business I was proud of. I’m just having the best time with life right now, everything’s exciting!

How did you get into videography? It’s always a form of art I have admired and been interested in. I remember sitting with my girlfriends while planning my wedding, watching countless wedding videos and feeling these amazing emotions of happiness and joy for two people I had never met. The art of telling a story that can make you feel things or like you’re a part of something special really resonated with me. After my husband and I documented our kids’ first years of life through creatively shot and edited videos, I realised I not only enjoyed it as a hobby but wanted to make it my job.

Describe your aesthetic My personal taste in shooting is quite dark and moody but obviously not everything can work that way. I try to keep everything I shoot very natural, candid and real. When shooting a video it can be hard to fake emotion, so I like to let things play out how they would if I wasn’t there.

Talk us through a typical day at work Every day and job is so different so I couldn’t say there’s a typical day. Lots of emails, phone calls, editing, music sourcing and then of course the really fun stuff, shooting! I am so lucky to shoot such a wide variety, from working on weddings to fashion shoots, events or workshops. I also have to share my work time with my family time. So editing time can sometimes be done in nap time, it’s an interesting balancing act but so worth it! Emma & Ryan from Wilde. Visual on Vimeo.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on? So hard to pick! Every project and clip I do becomes my new favourite! I got to shoot a very dark, artistic clip for a European magazine that won’t be out for a few months. I can’t wait to share it with the world, it was just so my style. I also recently did a private elopement with Pop Up Wedding, where the bride and groom told no one, got ready together, then were married in a pine forest at dusk. Being able to shoot and witness something as personal and amazing as that makes me feel extremely grateful and honoured to do what I do.

What do you love most about your job? Meeting people I look up to. I’ve been so lucky to have been able to work with photographers, models, couples and businesses that I think are awesome. The other best part is hearing that I’ve made someone happy. When a couple tells me they felt like they relived their wedding day and wouldn’t change a thing, I know I’ve done my job right!

I am happiest when… Generally – I have a big cup of coffee or glass of wine in front of me! Work Wise – I get exciting emails for new fun shoots! Mum Wise – My kids fall asleep on me. No better feeling in the world!
