When it came to Keira and Todd’s wedding, they decided to take on the ultimate challenge: plan a surprise wedding without anyone finding out! ‘Keeping it to ourselves until the day really allowed us to make it our own and keep it personal and close to our hearts,’ said the couple. ‘This element in itself was the decider for us. By labeling the occasion as an engagement party, guests were able to come as themselves, in comfortable clothes and with no expectations. Everyone had a good time without the pressures of a wedding, and this is what ultimately made the day so special.’
Keira and Todd decided early on that their wedding should be one big party – a joyous celebration of their love. They collected all their decorations and planned everything themselves, creating the ultimate DIY occasion. Imagine this – a vibrant, rainbow colour palette with no importance placed on what matched and what didn’t, delicious Mexican street food, hay bale couches covered in mismatched throws and cushions, a plethora of vintage glassware holding fresh blooms, a bar handmade by the groom using old railway sleepers, teepees, festoon lights and colourful, hand-sewn bunting made by the bride’s sister strung up everywhere – and that doesn’t even begin to capture the awesomeness of this backyard Blue Mountains wedding.
Keira and Todd let only their parents and bridal party in on the secret a month before the wedding. The only other people who were in on the surprise were their photographers Grace and Tim from Willow & Co., who perfectly captured some very special moments of surprise on guests faces as they realised that they were in fact attending a wedding!
