Sam met Heinz during one of her studio presentations while studying in New York back in 2011. After continuously bumping into each other, Heinz eventually asked Sam out on a date.

Once her studies were over, Sam moved back to Melbourne and the couple continued long-distance for almost a year. Eventually, in 2012 Heinz left his life in the US behind and made the big move to Melbourne, then a year after that he proposed!

The overall styling of Sam and Heinz’s wedding was a unique blend of cultures and rituals, celebrating Sam’s Bengali heritage with a contemporary western flair.

‘Our vision was to make it unique and represent the both of us,’ said the couple. ‘We both have very different tastes and styles and on top of that a fusion of cultures, nationalities and religions made it even more challenging and exciting!’

The couple felt that there was no better place to hold their wedding ceremony than Victoria Gardens, where Heinz had proposed. They also chose Encore at St Kilda Sea Baths for their reception to showcase something iconic to Melbourne for all of their international family and guests.

Sam loves colour but Heinz’s taste is more clean and minimal, so they incorporated both styles into their event. After looking at the green natural setting of their garden wedding, the couple thought it was best to compliment it, rather than compete with it. From here a rustic, vintage and whimsical theme emerged.

At the ceremony, the amazing floral stylists from Flower Jar created a beautiful silver birch wooden arch with ferns and vintage coloured roses in creams, soft pinks and oranges. The pews also had henna decorated mason jars with the brightly coloured seasonal blooms. At the reception, there were brightly coloured autumn leaves, moss on the tables, silver birch branches and sliced wooden logs, golden and silver mercury glass votives, bright explosions of seasonal blooms in hundreds of jam jars and brown apothecary bottles scattered throughout the tables.

‘It was phenomenal!’ said Sam.
