Living by the sea is pretty cool, but it’s even cooler when you get to share that with 20 of your closest pals.
Lucky for little surfer dude Tait, he got to combine his love for the ocean surfing and sharks into an epic fifth birthday bonanza!
Tait’s talented mum, Chey, is the owner of Oh La La Balloons and put together a Surf’s Up theme party for her little man, along with Leanne from Dream a Little Dream Events.
The theme
Surfing runs in Tait’s blood. Having a dad who surfs has meant he has grown up around the ocean and is surrounded by surfing culture all the time. When his fifth birthday rolled around, Tait decided he wanted to share one of his favourite beach hangouts—Floreat Beach—with his buds.
Tait chose his theme for the day, stemming from his adoration for the beach and all things outdoors. But, what fun is a surfing theme without some sharks to liven it up?
Chey says, “We also incorporated lots of sharks as Tait was a fan of them and, well, they were just super cute ideas.”
The palette for the day reflected the picturesque backdrop at Floreat Beach, consisting of a sea of blue, teal, coral and silver. These soft beachy tones all had Tait’s approval, of course!
The decorations
A combination of purchased and DIY pieces all tied together to give the fun feel this party exudes.
Chey and Leanne got together for a huge shopping adventure to source all the necessities like beach towels, shark soft toys, shark hats and water pistols! Another fan favourite for the day was the inflatable shark and surfboard that the kids could not get enough of.
The main decoration was the massive mesh backdrop featuring a balloon wave, a shark balloon and some coral, silver and blue streamers. They also added a hand-painted surfboard that Chey had made for Tait a few years earlier.
Tait’s Nana put together the pineapple table décor and made up the super-cool shark plates. This party was made up of so many awesome DIY elements that truly made this party so much fun!
Chey admits that with an event like this, many hands make light work. She suggests having a great group of people to help you put on the ultimate day for you little Miss or Mr.
“I have realised it’s impossible to do everything myself. So, decide what you want to do, do your research, book early and find local businesses that a great at what they do and let them help you out on the day! It makes for a less stressful day, and a more enjoyable celebration with family and friends.”
