When planning a wedding with a South American theme, there were a few must-haves that Ara and Jorge had to tick off the list! Touches of authenticity—check! Alpacas—check! A bright palette—check!

Ara and Jorge have been inseparable for seven years. After a whirlwind meet on Jorge’s Sydney vacation, the two formed an unconditional bond. In 2017, the pair took a trip to Paris, where Jorge proposed in front of the Eiffel Tower as the City of Lights glistened around them without another soul around. A perfect moment.

The Theme

This funky wedding was a big, bold celebration, rather than a formal, black tie event. Taking Jorge’s Peruvian background as inspiration, the duo spiced up their big day by centring their theme around the South American culture. This meant incorporating bright colours and authentic Peruvian pieces into the theme, and working around them. Ara had seen a photo of their arch piece and designed the rest of the palette around that.

Ara tells us, “I wanted to infuse a South American flavour into the mix.”

“Our wedding was a very colourful, fun, but elegant event.”

Another key part of their theme was the absolutely adorable alpacas from Alpaca Kisses. The two decided to incorporate alpacas into their celebration due to their significance in Peruvian culture (…and to add just a touch of Peru!). These gorgeous creatures wore neckpieces made of bright pompoms and delighted the guests and the couple alike.

The décor

The colour palette consisted of an array of bright colours—from sunny yellows, bright blues and electric purple to softer tones of peach, pastel pink and lavender. These colours combined in their florals, their archway centrepiece and in the napery.

The arch piece consisted of cascading paper fans and incredible honeycomb paper balls, fashioned around the arch in a burst of colour. This provided not only the framework for the whole affair but also an incredible backdrop to the moment they said, “I do”!

The napery was a particularly important aspect of the décor to the couple as they travelled to Peru together to select traditional textiles to be sewn into napkins. Whilst they were there, they also found stunning little handcrafted people pins at a local market.

Ara, being a graphic designer, put her incredible talents to good use, designing their signage, table numbers and place-cards and invitations.

Their favourite part of the day, as Ara described was, “Walking down the aisle, seeing all the decorations come to life, our loved ones, and Jorge waiting for me at the end. It was also a lot of fun running up and down the laneway for our send off with the sparklers” HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge002HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge009HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge017HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge019HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge031HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge072HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge084HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge105HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge112HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge125HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge135HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge169HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge029HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge028HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge025HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge021HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge038HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge042HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge053HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge178HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge181HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge188HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge213HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge214HOORAY_Ara_and_Jorge221
