1. Tell us a bit about yourself

Growing up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, I loved exploring the beach and bush and have always enjoyed anything creative. I love to paint, design, cook and get outdoors, and my new home on Queensland’s tropical central coast provides so much beautiful inspiration.

2. Tell us about your business

Pretty Palm Tree specialises in creating hand-drawn illustrations, watercolour paintings and watercolour brush lettering for wedding and event stationery, greeting cards and business branding, and I sell my artwork on the side! I believe in creating special, one-of-a-kind pieces to set the scene for your special day.

With almost 15 years working in different industries as a graphic designer, I also pride myself on being versatile and adapting to whatever style a client might request.HOORAY_Pretty-Palm-Tree-Photography_New_Zealand_Wedding_Stationery_Australia_Queensland15

3. What motivated you to start a stationery business?

When I took a job working part-time as a graphic designer I decided to start a little business on the side that could incorporate my love for watercolour painting and design, and stationery felt like the way to go!

A couple of years ago I got married, left Sydney and relaunched my business as Pretty Palm Tree, and now work on my business full-time.

After creating my own wedding stationery using my own watercolour illustrations I know how special it is to have something totally custom-made and designed especially for you!

4. Describe your aesthetic

Organic, original, botanical, beautiful, and simple!Cards_1_1

5. What do you love most about your job?

I love painting and working with people. So, I enjoy being able to use my creativity and art to help make a client’s vision and ideas a reality!

Working with a client or couple to create something unique that they’ll keep as a memory of their special day for years to come is what I love most!

6. What does a typical day look like for you?

Every day looks a bit different, but for me a typical week looks like painting, editing artwork to be ready for design, filling out ready-made orders, working on custom orders, liaising with suppliers, social media and admin… it can change day-to-day depending on clients’ needs!Top view office table desk. 7. I am happiest when…

At the beach with the warm sun on my face and swimming in the salty sea. I’m a saltwater gal 100%!

8. Where do you get your inspiration for your designs?

Australian bush and beach, surf culture and botany.HOORAY_Pretty-Palm-Tree-Photography_New_Zealand_Wedding_Stationery_Australia_Queensland12

9. What are some of the latest stationery trends that we should know about?

More and more, an organic and sophisticated handmade style is popular, incorporating watercolour botanicals or botanical line drawings, and hand-lettering or calligraphy.

For greetings cards, the illustrated puns and cheeky jokes are popular… getting away from the corny, mass-produced greetings cards from supermarkets!

10. What is the most memorable project you have worked on?

Recently I designed an invitation for a tropical themed Christmas party. As I love being able to incorporate my botanical watercolour illustrations into the stationery I design this was a little project I loved. It’s encouraging when clients appreciate the use of original art in my stationery design!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
