Michelle and Cameron share a love that started with fireworks—literally.

After months of shy waves and friendly hellos across workplaces, their first date (and kiss!) was shared under Sydney’s New Years Eve fireworks.

11 years later they finally celebrated their big day, surrounded by their closest friends and family, and of course their beautiful little English staffy—Buster.

The Theme

The couple share an undying love, not only for the beach, but also for the stunning Byron Bay and Tweed Heads region.

In fact, the white sandy beaches have played an epic role in their love story, being the place where Cam finally popped the question. So it was only fitting that their big day reflected this.

The theme echoed the relaxed coastal vibes of the Byron Bay region, featuring a clean, fresh palette of lush greens, crisp whites and wooden and brass features, as well as blush and nude tones to add a romantic edge.

“We also incorporated bleached dried foliage to give our palette a bit of a whitewashed, coastal contrast, with pops of gold and brass in the decorations,” Michelle added.

The ceremony featured stunning wooden arbours and fresh, dried and bleached foliage by Bower Botanicals, while their evening reception dazzled with statement pieces such as peacock chairs and glorious lighting displays. It was so important to the pair that their tribe felt comfy and relaxed, so opted for open plan seating and warm lighting.

What to do when lightning strikes

Whilst the couple had no surprises planned for their guests, their day was paused by every couple’s biggest wedding nightmare—a tropical thunderstorm (15 minutes before the ceremony!).

But this loved up duo would not be phased by a little rain and opted to wait it out, allowing their ceremony to run a little behind schedule. Seemingly the right decision, they were married under a glorious sunset.

As Michelle reflected on the day and this little hiccup, she offered her biggest tip for brides-to-be;

“Always have a second dress to change into!We waited out the storm, but I still had to walk down a very wet aisle and my dress was soaked and stained by the end! So be prepared for an outfit change, you never know what can happen on the day!”
