Today we’re sharing a colourful occasion in celebration of a Mumma-to-be!

Jessica, owner of Melbourne-based stationery brand Studio Silva, says she wanted a ‘baby celebration rather than a traditional baby shower.’

Jessica adds, ‘My husband and I wanted all our friends and family to attend, especially as we picked our first wedding anniversary as the date for the event. What better way to celebrate our first wedding anniversary than with our nearest and dearest, and raising a glass to our baby?!’

One of our favourite Melbourne photographers, Jenna of Smokey Oscar, flawlessly captured the essence of the day.

See how Jessica, with the help of her good friend Eliska of Ruffle & Bells, styled the perfect baby shower to celebrate with all her loved ones.

THE COLOUR SCHEME

The theme of this celebration was colour—and boy was it bright! Striking neon pink, yellow, bold orange and teal made up a colour palette that exploded throughout the décor. Jessica tells us she ‘wanted to have fun with it and create something laid back and not too girly like traditional baby showers.’

The couple got to DIY-ing elements of the set up by spray painting milk crates, baby bottles, and acrylic boxes. These were used for the dessert table, signage display, decorations, party favours and rises for the desserts. Even the seasonal blooms by Ruffles & Bells played with vibrant pinks, oranges, and purples, paired with some of Jessica’s home-grown cherry blossoms!

Jessica used her expertise in stationery design to create a bunch of teal cards with funny baby quotes to scatter over the tables. The cards featured quotes like, ‘got my mind on my mummy and my mummy on my mind’, ‘the sleep you ordered is out of stock’ and ‘I drink (milk) until I pass out’. According to Jessica, ‘everyone got a great laugh out of them!

THE VENUE AND FOOD

The celebration took place at The Ascot Lot, a funky food truck park in Melbourne. The venue’s colourful street art walls and shipping containers influenced the modern and industrialised styling, while the food trucks provided the mouth-watering food.

The couple kept it casual serving popcorn chicken, fries, sliders, chicken wings, and ‘all the yum stuff’ accompanied by a huge grazing table for ultimate snacking. Jessica says their venue was ‘so great and flexible to deal with, we had a range of beer, wine and soft drinks, and a couple of fun mocktails’. Décor was simple, with few complementary bits and pieces to let the venue do the talking.

Jessica is Portuguese and custard tarts are her husband’s favourite dessert, so it was only fitting to include Portuguese tarts on the menu! This delicacy was the centerpiece of a dessert table that supplied oh-so delicious ice cream cake—not only for the kids but the parents too!
