Ruby and Nathan’s love story started when they were 17. They met at metal music festival, Soundwave through mutual friends, ended up spending the whole day together—and the rest is history!
Fast-forward to many years later, and Ruby and Nathan found themselves dancing the night away under a magnificent tipi at their intimate bohemian wedding.
The event took place at Camp Sunnystones in Merrimu Victoria. The couple tell us, ‘We hired Camp Sunnystones for the weekend which is in beautiful Bacchus Marsh/Merrimu on acreage of land. It also offered a homestead which our guests could sleep at too!’
‘Our ceremony was in a beautiful garden nook on the property, which was magical. For our reception we hired an incredible double tipi from TipiKata which had a dance floor, table settings, firepit, grazing table and bar all underneath it.’
THE COUPLE’S STYLING
Okay, first thing’s first—let’s cover the bride’s knock out coloured hair.
Ruby’s vibrant orange locks not only looked incredible, but also became the inspiration behind the couple’s autumnal colour scheme. To complement this punchy hue, champagne, soft pink, burgundy and rich chocolate browns featured in the stunning floral arrangements by The Refined Bloom Co, as well as the rustic naked-style tiered cake.
Not one to shy away from bold punches of colour, the bride complemented her hair with a burgundy lip, matching to the groom’s dapper burgundy suit. Don’t they both look like a total dream?
THE ATMOSPHERE
The couple tell us, ‘we knew we wanted a relaxed feel to our wedding that was romantic and also fun. So that is why boho was the style that inspired our wedding!’
To kick start the relaxed feel, Nathan’s best friend officiated the ceremony. Ruby says, ‘he had everyone in stitches and it was the best way for someone to share our story!’
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a reception in a rustic style tipi filled with old Moroccan rugs, retro furniture and twinkling fairy lights. It perfect way to create a cosy and intimate atmosphere for family and friends.
To make the evening even more personal, Ruby and Nathan took to DIYing their own signage, polaroid guestbook and party favours filled with photos of memories with their guests. The wedding party also posed in matching denim jackets, which they had hand painted with “Best Man”, “Groomsman”, “Maid-of-Honour”, “Bridesmaid” and of course “Mr” and “Mrs”.
Their advice? ‘Don’t be too much of a perfectionist when it comes doing DIY signs, at the end of the day the guests aren’t going to remember the signs, but they are going to remember the fun they had on your big day! Also, have fun with it. The lead up is stressful but it’s so worth it when it comes together!’
