We often feature weddings here at HOORAY!, but it’s not often that we step behind the scenes with the event stylists. In this feature, the lovely ladies at Short & Spook talk us through their styling process in preparation for the spectacularly stunning wedding of Jane and Michael.

Short & Spook is an energetic and imaginative event design team based in Melbourne, Australia. Brought together by a savviness for creating the unique and the beautiful, they provide a professional event planning, design and management service for weddings and special occasions.

Courtney explains, ‘when we met Jane and Michael for their first design meeting, they had a pretty clear idea of what colour palettes they imagined for the big day. They had also already chosen their venue which was another great indication of their style. These two elements were a great starting point for our inspiration.’

‘Something that we love doing at Short & Spook is marrying two totally different themes together and making them look like they were made for each other. Jane and Michael had picked an old seaside estate for their wedding, so we couldn’t wait to bring our contemporary style into the space. We played with soft fabrics paired with sharp lines, we gathered lush cream florals with subtle tropical foliage. This is how we landed on our theme of Modern Heritage.’

‘Our colour palette consisted of soft neutrals—cream, taupe, greys complemented with touches of gold. We wanted to create a space where everything looked natural as if the venue was specifically designed for our styling. We also incorporated rich timbers to bring a depth to our neutral palette as well as integrating the gold smoothly.’

‘We mostly focused on the smaller details. We wanted to show that everything had been considered from the custom painted votives to our delicate linen. However in saying this, we love to wow people with our large installations. The venue had such high ceilings so we had absolutely no problem in bring in some tall seating charts and dance floor back drop. Also, any opportunity to hire trees makes us extremely happy!’Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_02Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_01 Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_04Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_03Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_75 Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_74Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_69Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_06 Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_07Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_09Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_08Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_10Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_12Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_28Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_11Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_19Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_25Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_16Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_27Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_50Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_62Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_68Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_46Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_56Blog_Tips_ShortandSpookStyling_52
