Sara-Joy and Tony met overseas while traveling with friends. They’ve since spent many of their dating years backpacking around the globe, so of course it was the obvious choice to have a destination wedding. Their fun and relaxed destination wedding in Cambodia was a beautiful fusion of cultures, set against a perfect private beach backdrop.
When it came to the event styling, the couple wanted to incorporate Tony’s Cambodian heritage and Sara-Joy’s Maltese/Aussie background, as well as bringing in elements from the beautiful location. They used lots of natural materials, mismatched patterns and textures to create a perfectly coordinated and relaxed homely feel. Sara-Joy says, ‘we wanted everything to be quite colourful and bright, incorporating plenty of summery yellows and gold.’
The Bride adds, ‘we really wanted to incorporate plenty of local culture into our wedding as this is part of the magic of having an overseas wedding. We felt like the colours and playfulness of the Cambodian ceremony was quite fun.’
At the reception, guests enjoyed a Cambodian banquet style meal. Sara-Joy says, ‘The chef from Sokha Resort put together an amazing menu and we decided to have it all in the middle of the tables for everyone to share.’
And the couple’s favourite moment? ‘Being pushed in the pool at the end of the night and all our guests jumping in after us! We could never have planned this, but it was so fun. It was quite a ‘pinch me’ moment to see all our guests (many still fully clothed) in the pool cooling off after a night of eating, drinking and dancing. We could never have planned something so fun and memorable!’
