Nelle and Michael had only been together six months before they booked their wedding day—two years in advance. There was no proposal either; they just mutually decided to get hitched. ‘We’re a bit of a modern couple,’ Nelle and Michael said. ‘We knew we wanted to be together forever and that we wanted to be married, so we just did it.’
Nelle and Michael had a ‘first look’ before leaving their B&B for the venue, and then the two of them, plus the whole bridal party, drove to the venue together. ‘I loved having the first look with Michael—it calmed our nerves and allowed us to take each other in before the ceremony when all eyes would be on us,’ Nelle said.
‘I’m an only child, and it has always just been my parents and me, so it was important that both my mother and father walked down the aisle with me,’ Nelle said.
Nelle didn’t want a traditional strapless A-line, ball gown or fit and flare dress, so she went searching for something more covered up, classic and elegant. She was lucky to find exactly what she wanted in a three-piece outfit consisting of a bodice, skirt and lace blouse from Babushka Ballerina. ‘I loved my dress and chose the bodice and skirt underlay in blush pink – which warmed up my complexion and added a bit more interest. I am SO glad I went for the pink, it was really subtle and I couldn’t have loved it more,’ Nelle said.
Nelle’s jewellery and clothing are all heirloom pieces from the bride’s family. The necklace was given to Nelle’s great grandmother on her 21st birthday in 1905, and has been worn by each woman in the family on their wedding day ever since. The rings were handmade by a local jeweller and the engagement ring was made using a diamond from the bride’s great-grandmother’s engagement ring.
