A Bohemian 1st Birthday Soiree

First birthdays are one of our favourite celebrations. Why? Because it’s at this age that parents can style their child’s party exactly how they want. There are no Frozen, Batman, Beauty and the Beast or Lego Movie themes to adhere to. Everything from the location and styling to the food and cake is completely up to the person in charge.

Frankie’s first birthday is the perfect example. While super adorable, this soiree be can tailored to any brief whether it be a wedding, an engagement, a baby shower or even a friend’s 40^thbirthday bash.

Frankie’s mum, Aimie Ryan is the owner of Sydney based florist Willow + Bear. As a creative, she’s always looking for opportunities to collaborate with other amazing vendors, so naturally, she saw her daughter’s first birthday as the perfect excuse.

The sweet soiree took place in the woodlands, to complement the moody vibe Aimie was trying to capture. She steered clear of vibrant colours and opted for a muted palette, with natural finishes including palm fronds, feathering and even coconuts to give it a boho feel.

For décor, she used mainly white furniture with a mix of wood and rattan to bring contrast the dark and bring warmth to the space, while the florals were simple, understated and just a little outside the box.

‘But my favourite piece of the whole party was the tree we dressed with dried out palm fronts. Sitting beneath the tree was an oversized number 1, adorned with white delphinium – a total stunner,’ says Aimie.
