Lara is the owner of Signed by Bird, a handmade, handwritten sign business based in Northern Sydney. She wanted to throw her daughter Mia an incredible first birthday celebration to show off her beautiful products and gather some of her favourite vendors together to create some magic.

The Theme

The theme of the party was a mixture of rustic, beachy, boho and garden. Rose gold featured as the focal colour and using a white canvas, pops of this hue were incorporated into copper stands for the signage, rose gold orb balloons, blush sweets and beautiful faux florals!

The Florals

‘The Faux Flower Company provided amazingly realistic flowers. None of the guests could tell they weren’t real,’ says Lara.

‘Being able to hire all of the arrangements to dress and style the birthday made it so easy.’

The Styling

Of course, there was also plenty of Lara’s handmade signage decorating the event, including a welcome sign, a giant Polaroid frame, a circular name sign and a doughnut wall.

The Menu

But it wasn’t just the sensational styling that made this first birthday party one to remember. The simple, yet mouth-watering menu consisted of some of our all-time favourites, including roast lamb and pork and an antipasto grazing station.

‘There are 101 things to worry about apart from cooking and preparing food for the day. So, my clever husband took himself to Bunnings and came home with a big spit,’ says Lara.

‘I must say, waking up in the morning and setting up the spit with a big succulent piece of pork on one side and a juicy piece of lamb on the other really did lead to a no-stress day when it came to the food.

‘It cooked slowly on its own and was ready when guests arrived. Then we paired it with some fresh bread rolls, gravy and slaw and Bob’s your uncle!’
