A Bold + Bright African Baby Shower
Wednesday, July 25th, 2018 | By Rosalie Iannelli
Hand-on-heart, this might just be the coolest baby shower we’ve ever seen.
Set in Pretoria, South Africa, mother-to-be Sthi wanted a baby shower with a hint of a traditional African theme and lots of colour, to celebrate the impending arrival of her little girl. The team from Konfetti Love delivered just that, creating a vibrant and textured event, featuring colourful décor, fresh blooms and guests dressed in “Wakandan Goddess” African attire.
Event Stylist, Marissa from Konfetti Love, says her vision for the event began with the bright African-themed stationery, which helped to guide the rest of the styling. Other inspirational elements were traditional “Shwe Shwe” fabrics found locally in South Africa, with bright colours and bold patterns.
‘Sthi is also an interior decorator who works with lots of colour and texture, so I wanted to ensure I conveyed her style through the event too,’ says Marissa.
The team used a base colour palette of pink, nude and blush tones, then added punches on orange, yellow and blue for contrast and fun. They crafted a photo backdrop from colouful strips of cotton that, although seemingly busy, photographed perfectly with the African dresses.
Throughout the party, guests also had the opportunity to paint an alphabet block for the nursery, as a practical and sentimental gift for the mother-to-be.
But Marissa says her favourite moment on the day was when Sthi arrived.
‘All of the guests formed a line and as she walked past they “Hululated” – a high-pitched African sound women make as an expression of joy and celebration,’ explains Marissa.
‘It truly was a very special moment.’
Sit back and get ready to take in all the goodness that is Sthi’s baby shower.
