Kristin and Sam’s love story began in 2009. The pair continually found themselves bumping into one another at birthday parties and gatherings, and felt an instant connection.
Kristin says, “We connected straight away as we were both the shy ones at the parties.”
Sam popped the question during a trip to Mt Kosciuszko with a group of friends over the Summer. He waited until they had reached the peak of the mountain, then when Kristin casually passed her camera to a friend to take a photo, Sam asked, “I’m the tallest man in Australia right now …will you make me the happiest?”
“It was so corny but it was awesome. The best thing was that he had told no one and my best friend was standing there surprised and snapping photos of the whole thing!”
The Venue
Fast-forward a little time, and Kristin and Sam said ‘i do’ set amongst the lush greenery of Berry, New South Wales.
The stunning Broughton Mill Farm Guesthouse set the scene for the entire celebration with colour choice, decor and styling all taking inspiration from the picturesque venue.
Kristin says, “we fell in love with the venue as soon as we found it and the theme and style of our wedding developed from this. The venue had lots of different spaces which allowed us to have separate areas for each part and take our guests on a bit of a journey throughout the day.”
“Starting with entering the ceremony area, through the vined archway to an open area by the creek. We then moved to another area of the property for afternoon games, cocktails and just chilling out – and finally to the dining room which opened onto a gorgeous patio covered in vines and fairy lights to hold the cocktail reception and lots of dancing under the stars.”
The Styling
Kristin explains, “the indoor area was already filled with beautiful antique furniture and a lovely chesterfield lounge, so we added more to it with brass, maroons, teal and candles to create a romantic and moody vibe.”
Though these two love birds used a bunch of talented vendors to pull together their big day, they didn’t shy away from a few DIY projects. Their spectacular triangular arbour was crafted by Sam’s father, while Kristin upcycled a bunch of decor pieces such as candle holders, picture frames and larger furniture to decorate the space.
The Drinks
Guests were treated to a surprise Espresso Martini bar – the perfect way to kick-start a night of revelry!
“It was something no one had experienced at a wedding before and was a welcome surprise. Our guests are still talking about it and how delicious they were. It also was a good start to get everyone loosened up for the night.”
The couple’s advice
If you’re planning a wedding, Sam and Kirstin have a few tips to share:
“Make sure you have a helping hand on the day, The Wedding and Event Creators were so needed to make sure everything was set up and ran to plan.”
“Also if you can afford it, have a wedding band!! It was the best decision we made, there is definitely something amazing about live music that really gets everyone going.”
