A Rustic Yarralumla Woolshed Wedding

A ‘once upon a tinder match’ love story, Brendan took Tamara on a picnic for their first date, where they talked for hours (…without touching any of the food he had prepared!).

Taking Tamara away for a week holiday with their three kids, Brendan asked her to watch a video. In it the three children and Brendan held up signs, with the final one reading ‘will you marry Dad?’

So shocked, Tamara forgot to give her answer! Of course, it was evidently a yes.

THE VENUE:

The ceremony and reception unfolded at the iconic Yarralumla Woolshed in Canberra. Built in 1904, the rustic venue features shearing sheds, rusted metals, old wood panels and high ceilings.

Tamara and Brendan’s decor was inspired by the venue. Nearly everything at the wedding was handmade—from the floral chandeliers, signs and the centrepieces to the tables!

‘I even convinced—forced, maybe—Brendan to make the bar and some of the tables with me. It was all time consuming, but so rewarding when we saw everything come together,’ Tamara added.

THE FOOD:

‘We wanted food to fill everyone’s bellies, that offered good variety. We had plenty of mini humans to cater to—that’s not always easy,’ says Tamara.

With that tough task ahead, the couple opted for food that would suit a crowd with many options available for all tastes, big or small.

The guests enjoyed a delicious grazing table by Nibble and Nourish, a selection of woodfired pizzas by Alex the Pizza Guy, gyros by Ela Yiro, a spectacular doughnut wall and cake by La Ombre Creations.
