Wendy and Patrick wanted an effortless wedding with a primary focus on food, wine, and party. They chose minimal design elements, enhancing the natural beauty of their venues—the breathtaking architectural views from the State Library of Queensland and the sleek waterfront of Pony Dining.
Wendy, a ceramicist, added many personal touches including handmade sake cup bonbonnieres for each of the 100 guests to toast to the newlyweds. Not only did she craft the sake cups, she also made the table number holders, vases for the centerpieces, and even propagated the succulents!
Natural Elements
Wendy remembers ‘walking in and tearing up because the flowers were so gorgeous,’ and with the elegant floral backdrop made by Mrs. Gibbons Flowers for the ceremony, we can see why!
Wendy and Patrick chose two venues with a lot of character already, so the only elements needed to make it their own were the flowers.
‘We wanted things to be refined, yet show as much of our personalities as possible,’ the couple adds.
Wendy worked with her florist to create the aesthetic.
‘I really love floral explosions and freakebana styles, so Amber of Mrs. Gibbons Flowers ran with that and created the most perfectly imperfect arrangements that reflected our vision,’ explains Wendy.
The florals included roses, anthuriums, orchids, peonies and some succulents throughout ‘to keep things interesting!’ Wendy adds.
Traditional Inspirations
Wendy wanted to incorporate traditional elements her Chinese heritage into their day, changing into a red and gold dress for the reception, and including a Chinese tea ceremony with their families.
‘The red and gold of my traditional dress was complemented by the warm decor of the venue,’ Wendy tells us.
‘We matched the cake colours to the second outfit, using reds and golds.’
We were also super excited to hear that one of our absolute favourite Brisbane-based celebrants, Rachel Green of Two Small Words, officiated the ceremony.
