If earthy tones and Australian flora make your heart sing, look no further than Sage’s tropical Australian-themed first birthday. The charming party featured koala decorations, native florals and a gorgeous colour palette of natural hues, beiges and ivory.

The day was organised by Sage’s mum, Naomi Miles of @for_thedreamers Instagram account. We’ve featured many of Naomi’s milestone events over the years, including her 30th birthday, baby shower, and the first birthday party for Sage’s older sister, little Eden-Mae. So, it was only fitting to feature Sage’s party too!

A SPECIAL CAUSE

The party was more than just charming décor; there was a worthy cause behind the koala-themed decorations. When the summer bushfires of 2020 devastated the country, Naomi saw the opportunity to fundraise for the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park koalas.

Naomi says, “we set up a Go Fund Me page and all the guests donated to the wildlife park instead of buying Sage a present. It was a lot of fun to have an Australian-tropical theme with a meaningful foundation to the whole planning process.”

What an incredibly special way to celebrate a milestone! Naomi adds, “when Sage grows up, I hope she will be able to look back fondly on this birthday and appreciate the act of giving. That even at her age she was able to help others in need and help our beautiful Australian animals at a time of desperation.”

THE DÉCOR

Muted colours and natural décor were the theme of the day and came together to create a relaxed yet charming atmosphere. Native flora was scattered throughout, creating a tropical feel that was matched by the wooden features and guests colourful clothing. And can we talk about this house?! There could not be a more perfect venue with its charming 70s character to host what looked like such a lovely day.

The highlight of the décor was none other than the adorable koala theme. Koalas were seen all throughout the sun-soaked party from the kids’ crafting corner, to our favourite feature here at HOORAY!, the cake! The koala cake creation by The Little Butter Cream Co is a super-cute take on the iconic Aussie animal that we won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

THE FOOD

This first birthday impressed with its food selection. Guests were treated to a grazing platter that would make even a koala green with envy. With a mimosa bar for the adults and tropical fruits for the kids, everyone was sure to be covered. We think it looked like an Aussie summer dream!
